Have an acct that states they are now seeing a number D230 handsets that ONLY work in SPK mode.
When holding the handset normally the user cannot hear the caller but the caller can hear the user. They are forced to press the SPK button the be able to hear the calling/called party.
Apparently they change out both the base and handsets and within a week or two the new handsets start doing the same thing.
I have looked though all I can documentation wise and cannot see how this is even configurable which leads me to think they are somehow damaging the hardware. Perhaps a static hit from carpet they are shuffling their feet on? Hoping to get my hands on one of the handsets to test for myself.
Curious if anyone has ever heard of this or if this was ever a known firmware issue.

Hello Pat@8x8 ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

Both the communities Must Read First or Read 1st and if available the FAQ reference the basic minimum information a new or follow-up post should contain.

This ensures the questions having to be asked are limited and any new or follow-up post contains the right amount of details to ensure any voluntary participant within the community does not spend additional time chasing basic information.

Unfortunately, your post fell a bit short of the above-explained requirements and we kindly ask you, therefore, to ensure to read these sections and ensure a reply (not Edit!) provides as much detail as possible

Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the FAQs listed in my signature for your convenience.

The best and quickest way forward is to contact our Support organisation as the community is run by volunteers only.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier

Apologies for not providing more detail on the D230's

The 8 handsets that experienced this issue are all VVXD230 devices running Software version 0.1.33R-07 and base units with firmware version 7.1.3.9112

One of them is MAC 9cadefa857cb

Initially 4 handsets reported the problem (4 handsets on 2 bases) and all were replaced (including the bases) only to have the new hardware also start showing the same symptoms after approx a week of use.

All devices running off 8x8 Services.

UPDATE:

Changed out the handsets with replacement devices and running for almost 2 weeks now as expected. Will update again if the "SPK Only" symptom returns.
