I am manually configuring our phones with our voip provider - everything works great except remote phones now get a reminder prompt when someone else puts a caller on hold.

How do you turn this off? We have tried setting

call.hold.remoteNotification.enabled="0"

But this line gets removed on reboot.

Hello KyleWatson,

as previously reminded it is always useful to include the currently used software version as issues experienced may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes.

The above is also stated in the "Read First: Welcome to the Polycom VoIP Forum"

The FAQ also mentions:

Jan 14, 2015 Question:Finding the default values for configuration parameters for Polycom Phones?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Looking at a polycomConfig.xsd:

<xsd:element name="call.hold.remoteNotification"><xsd:complexType>
        <xsd:attribute ref="call.hold.remoteNotification.enabled">
          <xsd:annotation><xsd:documentation>true/false parameter default 0 (false).</xsd:documentation></xsd:annotation>
        </xsd:attribute>

The above shows that the factory default for this parameter is already 0 so the parameter will not be shown in a Backup as it does not differ from the default values.

An easy way for you to double check the issue would be to compare two backups of a local and a remote phone. Notepad++ has a built in compare functionality and apart from the username and extension the backup should not really show a difference.

The message, to my knowledge, only shows up if a shared line is used.
