Hi,

I have a Polycom VVX310, firmware 5.0.2.2756.

I can't disable the welcome sound anymore, changing the parameter doesn't do anything. At each restart I have this annoying sound 😞

I didn't have that issue with 5.0.1.7310

Can you confirm me there is a bug, and can you solve it ?

Here is my phone settings :

Hello jean330,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Due to my job I flash phones on a rather regular basis and have never ran into this.

I would suggest you have not anywhere else configured to apply this parameter as this is standardly turned off.

As a workaround simply remove the actual wav file from the server.

Any steps forward would require yourself to raise this via your Polycom reseller.

Hi,
thanks for your answer, I'm a final customer, for sure my reseller doesn't know anything about Polycom phone settings, it only sells it !!!
I put this parameter with 5.0.1.7310 and I don't heard the initial sound.

Then I updated to 5.0.2 from the interface, so on Polycom Server !  From 5.0.2.2185 it doesn't work anymore, I always have the sound at startup.

You can try the exact file I wrote above, on a clean VVX310.

On my previous IP335, I had to mount an FTP server to update it (I followed a tutorial somewhere here)
When you say "As a workaround simply remove the actual wav file from the server."
So I have :
- to mount an FTP server ?
- get the "Polycom UC Software 5.0.2 Rev D for VVX",  "Split" release I suppose ?
- modify the zip file and remove "SoundPointIPWelcome.wav" (I suppose...)
- place everything on the FTP server, and it will be ok ?

Thanks

Hello jean330,

this is the escalation process and in this case your reseller who sells you the phone needs to do this.

As mentioned already I flash phones every day from different versions and never have this tone.

Not sure for the reseller... maybe that's common on the US, but in France, I'm quite sure my seller doesn't offer any support for the phone, or only if that phone has an hardware issue.

So, I mounted the FTP server, put the "split" files ... but .... nothing. I'm still on 7310. Here are the Filezilla logs (I masked with *** the last numbers of the phone). Do you find what may be wrong ? thanks

Edit : I'm always on BootROM 5.2.1.6300, is it necessary to get a new boot file (I just checked the ftp server mount tutorial, but I don't find any separate boot file for VVX310)

thanks

I just tried to reset the phone settings before restarting, the phone is downloading something on the FTP server.... keep in touch ...

Hello Jean,

Purchasing a Polycom phone from a reseller is similar to purchasing a car from a car dealer or a simple can of food from a supermarket.

Your binding contract is with the person who sold you the item and if in this case the person who was willing to sell you the item and is not willing to provide any kind of support you should consider who you purchase from in the future.

We, Polycom, do not provide support to End Customers directly and this Tier 1 support must come from the person / organisation who sold you the item.

The reseller has the Tier 1 support responsibility and they can escalate into Polycom support.

My obscuring the MAC address of the phone you have taken the possibility of myself to possibly look into who sold you the phone so all I can ask you again to please work this out with whoever sold you the phone as the log does not even show the phone loading the wave file.

In addition the log shows the Phone loading UCS 4.1.0 Rev B which is a LYNC only release and not applicable to SIP servers and not the UCS 5.0.1 or UCS 5.0.2 you claim you are loading. This comment is based on the phone using a username of 410b.

Best Regards

I thought I can find some help here (I found some useful tutorials !). It's more practical than asking the seller (I understand your position although), as for a car (I'm looking on fan forums when I have some car issue).

Updating from my FTP server is ok ... but the wav file SoundPointIPWelcome.wav  is not the sound I heard at the start (I didn't tested it before removing it).

The split zip only has Warble.wav, SoundPointIPWelcome.wav, and LoudRing.wav  and none of this sound is the one I heard at the start. So I don't know where it is stored the sound I heard at the beginning. I tried to had the 2 commands in the cfg file :

up.welcomeSoundEnabled="0"
up.welcomeSoundOnWarmBootEnabled="0"

and still same bip bip sound at startup.

Do you know where's that file ? Or what's his name ?

I may go and see with my seller (online seller on amazon), but I doubt to have any help, It sells a lot of computer thing (print cardrige, mouse, hard disk, not only phones !) so I doubt they have any skills in polycom settings ! A supermarket doesn't know every aspect of the products it sells.

And If the idea is for him to make a paying ticket to Polycom (for that little issue), for sure he doesn't going to make it, that's not an hardware issue !

Edit : for the 410b login, that's only the login I choose on my FTP server, just to follow the tutorial...

Hello Jean,

As this is the official Polycom community Polycom employees obviously can only respond to a certain extend without providing a full free support.

The role of the reseller, as explained already, is to offer Tier 1 support to untrained End Customers.

The reseller in this role, is able to get access to Polycom support in order to open support tickets for free, if the unit in question is within its manufacturer warranty time.

If your Reseller is refusing to do so or is unable to do so you should consider not purchasing from such source as this leaves you without access to Polycom support.

You latest update from last night is the first post that mentions that the sound effect you are hearing is in fact none of the pre-defined Polycom wav files.

Even the fact that the up.welcomeSoundEnabled is enabled as a standard setting will still not result in the Phone loading this.

Only declaring the saf.1="SoundPointIPWelcome.wav" value would actually trigger the phone to load and subsequently playback the so called Welcome Sound.

What you are most likely hearing may be am message waiting tone or similar and is an electronic beep or double beep and you would need to compare what kind of services the phone SUBCRIBES to or receives NOTIFY’s for in order to find the difference in the behavior of the two software Version.

This is described in the FAQ as follows:

Jan 19, 2012 Question: How to troubleshoot Polycom VoIP related Issues?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

For any further support please work with your Polycom reseller or await if any member of the community reply.

Best Regards
