On the VVX 501 and 601, can the backlight be turned off when the phone is idle?

This User Guide (5.3.0) says yes:

http://plcmtechnet.com/documents/voice-conferencing/desktop-phones/vvx-business-media-phones/vvx-300...

"You can change the Backlight On intensity and the Backlight Idle intensity separately, and you can choose a high, medium, or low intensity, or turn off the backlight entirely."

The Admin Guide (5.5.0, page 385) says no:

up.backlight.idleIntensity

VVX 300/301/310/311 = 0, 1, 2, 3

All other phones = 1, 2, 3
The brightness of the LCD backlight when the phone is idle. 1 – low, 2 – medium, and 3 – high.

Hello authenticjt,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Certain Features may only work with certain phone models and in addition may be incorrectly describe in the Admin Guide or accompanying documentation. We always try to fix this in later versions of the documents.

The Admin Guide you are quoting is 5.3.0

The VVX501 and 601 Range was only introduced with Software Version UC 5.4.1 so the Guide is irrelevant for these phones.

Simply press the Menu Button => Settings => Basic => and chose between Backlight Intensity or Backlight Timeout

Thank you for your comments, Steffen.

Can anyone out there with a VVX 500/501 or 600/601 sitting in front of them let me know if you are able to turn the backlight completely off, either locally or through centralized provisioning?  Without turning off the phone, of course.

Thanks in advance to all replies.

Thank you for the help but as you can see this is of no help. Is there a way to turn off the backlight. There is no setting I can see that will shut the light off. With the 601 being the a high end phone I would think this could be done. Please let us know how to turn off the back light not just dim.

Thank you again

Hello @Hermskee and all,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

On the Phone simply via the Web Interface see the Settings > Power Saving

The above allows you to set a time when the display is active but it requires a human interaction to wake up again after it has been asleep.

We discussed this => here <=

thank you thats great

How do I (where do I ) turn off the blinking message light now. I see that there is a line of code i can use to to this but I cant understand how or where to put that code. Also, when i set my hours when i got to after hours that message kept blinking a banner saying off hours which didnt seem right is there a way to turn that banner off. If i do that with code i have no idea how to or where to place the code.

why is there not a toggle to have the light come on with activity like all the other PBX i have used.

Thanks again

Hello @Hermskee,

Polycom phones may have several features that differ from a system you are already used to.

The community's VoIP FAQ contains this post here:

Mar 08, 2013 Question: Where can I download configuration files from or create these myself?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

The above explains how you create your own configuration files for settings that cannot be changed via the Web UI.

The LED was already discussed => here <= or => here <=

The Out of hours message is a feature that is working as designed and there is no parameter that I am aware to disable this.
