In our offices we have analog phone lines. Our boss expressed his interest in a conference phone, and one of our secretaries "did some research" and found the polycom ip 5000. Well he ordered the Soundstation ip 5000, and then was transferred. So here we are, left with a VoIP phone. Is there anyway we could buy a 3rd party extension to convert it so we can use it as an analog phone?

Or is it impossible and we need to switch it out for the Soundstation Duo?

Thanks for your help

Hello drk,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

You would need an ATA adapter to convert from SIP to analog. This is not a product Polycom produces or sells. If you can swap the SSIP5000 into a SoundStation Duo would be easier and furure proof.

But from reading about ATA adapters, it seems to me that they're used to turn analog phones into VoIP phones. Does it also work by turning a VoIP phone into an analog phone?

This is just what I found from a quick google search of an ATA adapter

"An analog telephone adapter (ATA) is a device for connecting traditional analog telephones, fax machines, and similar customer-premises devices to a digital telephone system or a voice over IP telephony network."

Or what Cisco offers

"The Cisco ATA 190 Analog Telephone Adaptor allows you to connect and support analog devices, such as phones and fax machines, from your IP network."

Really, we'd just be happy if we could get a free, or practically free way of using this phone. We're only looking at using it maybe twice a month for maybe 2 hours at a time. Thanks

Hello drk,

You are 100% correct and an ATA does not help you.
