How do you record calls on the vvx600 ? I do not see a soft "Record" button on the screen?

User Guide, p.64 "If the call recording feature is available, and you connect a USB flash drive to the USB port on your phone, you can record active calls on your phone."  -- what does it mean "If the call recording feature is available".

Please note:

1) I have a vvx600 phone, Microsoft Lync 2013 (through Office 365).

2) The phone screen does show the USB Icon (if I click on it, it shows: 1) picture frame, 2) storage media properties: Total 7.5 gb; Used 64 ke; Free: 7.5 gb; Device ID: 1921,21973).  -- So it does look like the Phone is reading the USB drive.

3) If I unplug the USB drive from the phone and input into a PC, I see a single folder "CallRecording".

4) I have tested 2  different USB  drives on more than 1 vvx600 phone with the same result "I do not see a soft button for recording calls".

5) I have updated the phone to the latest Firmware (as of 11/15/13).

Hello Lightjag,

I have created a new FAQ post => here <= that explains in detail how to enable and how to use USB recording.

Please be aware that using LYNC you will require a license as explained here:

Please be aware of the following when utilizing UCS 4.1.0 or later:

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync environment. You may not install, access, or use the Software in a Lync environment on more devices than are listed on your license until additional licenses have been purchased and authorized by Polycom. These licenses should be purchased from the same company from which you purchased the devices. You may operate devices against a Lync server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.

Information in regards of License Part Numbers can be found => here <=

Best Regards

Hello Lightjag,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Providing a date for the software version is not a good idea as the software versions change and someone would need to match these against the overview list to gather what you class as latest at that provided date.

It makes more sense to post the software version.

In order to enable USB recording the following parameter must be set:

feature.callRecording.enabled="1"

Only a connected call can be recorded, you cannot start the recording before you make the call.

Please be aware of the following when utilizing UCS 4.1.0 or later:

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync environment. "In order to enable USB recording the following parameter must be set:   feature.callRecording.enabled="1" "

I have UC Software Version 5.0.1.4068

Once I log-into the phone (through the Web Configuration Utility) how do I set the parameter (where in the menu)?

So I can not set this through the Web Configuration Utility?

HP Recommended

Hello Lightjag,

if you could set this via the web interface I would have explained how you do this.

We have literally thousands of separate settings and it would be impossible to include all of this in the web interface.

UC Software Version:  5.0.1.4068

Phone: vvx 600

Currently in order to record a call one has to press 3 buttons (more, record, start) on the vvx 600.

1) is there a way to configure the vvx600 for 1 button recording? (if not hopefully in a future software update)

2) is there a way to record ALL calls automatically?

HP Recommended

Hello Lightjag,

you could probably create a EFK (it would not remove the original record button) and basically simulate the pressing of the Buttons.

EFK and other details are described in the community FAQ with various examples.

There are no one button press recording or automatically recording plans to my knowledge and you would need to involve your reseller and a Polycom sales engineer to provide a business case for this.

Best Regards

1) I would appreciate if someone who has experience with coding an EFK (Enhanced Feature Key), write one to simulate the 1 button record (in position 1, first soft button once a call starts). I image that it would not take that long, for an experienced coder, to bang one out.

I some good reference info here:

http://blogs.scansource.com/polycom-efk-enhanced-feature-keys-basics/

and here:

http://wiki.sipfoundry.org/display/sipXecs/Polycom+Phone+Customization

It would take me a long time to figure this out (code, then upload (if it failed to work)...could I upload revised code or do I have to do something else for fore I upload revised code?)....If no one on this board writes this code I will give it a try when I have more time and if successful will post here (because I am a team player and I am sure I am not the only one looking for 1 button record).

2) By the way, when you play a recorded message back there is no rewind as with most phones systems (possibly a future software update?).

3) Call recording has to be a Top 5 Feature for any end user (for transaction based calls, or simply a detailed call from a client or boss....ensuring that no details are missed).
