Hello,

recently I've been trying to perform Software Upgrade operation on my Polycom Trio 8800.

Currently I'm running it on UC Software Version: 5.7.1.4095 and I wanted to upgrade to: 5.9.2.7727

In order to do so I went on Web Interface of the phone:

Utilities -> Software Upgrade and choose:

1. Server type: Polycom Hosted Server and click Check for updated

2. As a result I get: Successfully fetched available software from the Polycom Hosted server.

3. From drop down menu "Software available at Polycom Hosted server"  I choose: 5.9.2.7727 and confirm it by clicking Install.

4. There is a confirmation needed:

Current software version: 5.7.1.4095
Selected software version: 5.4.0.12197
Phone will be downgraded with Polycom Hosted server software.
Do you really want to downgrade phone software? - so Yes

5. EULA has been shown to be confirmed - Accept

6. An than another confirmation message:

The phone will reboot and be updated only if the software you selected is compatible and different from the currently installed version.
Note:The phone has either rebooted or restarted due to configuration changes. Refresh the browser after the phone starts up.

7. I've clicked OK but after a while nothing happens.

So I did a little digging in the logs (Diagnostics > View & Download Logs) and found following information:

0224164539|cfg |*|00|Prov|Starting to provision
0224164539|cfg |*|00|Prov|Starting to update

0224164539|clist|4|00|dbSet::srv2mem:'000000000000-directory.xml' File transfer failed, trying to get local file

From this point forward I'm lost.

I did try same this for other versions and result is the same.

I did set up my own file server and was trying to update via Custom Server and I get following response: Unable to locate phone software for this model on the Custom Server.

And as a last resort I did try to upgrade it directly via USB. Also no luck.

I would be grateful for any hints what to do.

Hello,

so - a small victory in the world of constant device update in pursuit for new functionality.

Now my device is running latest version of the software.

Last advice was the best and what I've done:

1. I did factory reset device. I didn't manage to do it by "four fingers". I did try 3 times with no luck. Finally I had to do it from device interface. It worked.

2. After restart I turned on web interface of the device

3. I opened device web interface with Internet Explorer. With other browsers like Edge/Chrome or Firefox did managed to log in but no menu was reachable. There was no text, no menu - nothing.

4. I went for Software Update option. Fetch list of latest software version and hit Install button.

5. I've accepted all required agreement's and waited for any indication that update process has started.

6. On the screen of the device after few seconds I've noticed statement:

Software Update in progress (or something similar)

7. After about 30 minutes device restarted and I was able to access device interface.

8. I did change admin password and after reboot device was finally ready for production configuration.

So problem solved. This was a bit of a fight.

Once again thank you for the help.

Hello @Michal K. ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

Both the communities Must Read First and the FAQ reference the basic minimum information a new or follow up post should contain.

This ensures the questions having to be asked are limited and any new or follow up post contains the right amount of details to ensure any voluntary participant within the community does not spend additional time chasing basic information.

As a reminder the basic information asked for:

UC Software 4.0.0 or later via the Web Interface Utilities > Phone Backup & Restore > Phone Backup > Phone Backup. Please rename into .TXT or Zip the file to attach.
Since UC Software 5.9.0 simply provide this via the Web Interface Diagnostics > Download Support Information Package

  • If possible provide a Log and either attach them or use the Code Tag.Consult the Troubleshooting Section found within the FAQ if applicable
  • If possible provide the MAC Address or Serial of the device
  • Provide details for example if the issue is a day 1 issue or only happened after an upgrade or any other relevant details
  • For questions around Support please check here

Whilst providing some of these details may not directly impact any possible answer the community can provide, it does enable Poly to have an overview of the current software used. In addition, providing all details at the same time allow us to check logs or look up potential support partners if an issue needs to come into support. It also enables us to verify the entitlement for using features.

Please ensure you always check the FAQ's and/or utilize the community search before posting any new topics or follow up posts.

May 11, 2018 Question: Why do I get a "Failed to fetch available software from the Poly hosted server" error message or able to download list but unable to upgrade/downgrade?

Resolution: Please ensure your firewall allows outbound network traffic as shown  => here <=

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards

Hello @Michal K. ,

Thanks for getting back but you did not:

  • Post any form of a log with amended logging levels for us to see what the issue could be
  • Post a Poly serial so we could look who can support you

The next step would be a support ticket.

In order to raise a support ticket, you need to work with your Poly reseller as they may need to do this for you.

End Customers are usually unable to open a ticket directly with Poly support. Available End User Poly services offerings are detailed here

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter providing your MAC address or your Poly devices serial will enable us to look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Poly device from.

If the unit is no longer within the warranty please be prepared to Pay Per Incident / PPI. This is all outlined in detail here

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Hello @Michal K.

NIMANS ELECTRONICS LTD sold this unit back in 26/07/2016.

Your logs do not contain the following (as shown in the shared FAQ post):

Settings > Logging > Module Log Level Limits > Copy Utilities > Event 1

Settings > Logging > Module Log Level Limits > CURL > Event 3

Please change this or we will not be able to determine the root cause for this failing.

- Diagnostics > View & Download Logs > Clear

Replicate issue aka check for software updates and then accept all steps and then

- Diagnostics > View & Download Logs > UCS Application > Export

Provide us with the logs if you cannot determine the failure via the logs.

In addition, if you are using Skype for Business in USB mode there is not much enhancement in newer software anyway.

If you still stuck and the unit is no longer within the warranty please be prepared to Pay Per Incident / PPI. This is all outlined in detail here

The thing is - why is this device so obsessed to upgrade/download language file?

Every time I hit button Install on Software Update page it looks for language update not firmware upgrade.

I've a feeling that if I get over this obstacle I'll get my device updated.

Configuring properly filed Server Address on Settings > Provisioning Server also improved situation. I've there: downloads.polycom.com not empty.

If anyone have any idea what to do next I'm open to suggestions. 🙂

I've tried to upgrade Software version bu USB. After inserting usb drive containing latest firmware, inserting PIN and confirming that I want to upgrade I got following message:

No software update required

So now I'm officially out of ideas how to upgrade my unit.
