Good Afternoon all,

A rogue user in our network updated the Polycom 650 passwords from the default: 456. Prior to UCS 4.0.1.13681, we could reset the admin password by rebooting phone, selecting 4,6,8,*. Entering the <removed by the moderator> instead of password. This method does not appear to work in post UCS 4.0.0. Can someone provide another method to update the admin password? Thank You!

Hello ,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

We do not disclose within this official Polycom community how to reset the Phones if the Admin Password is lost.

Many of our partners utilize these phones and offer services so we cannot publicly disclose the procedure to do so.

If your phone is still able to connect to the Provisioning server please reset the password via the Device Parameters documented in the Admin Guide or => here <=.

If this is not possible please contact your Polycom reseller .

We will remove any post replying to this that will publicly explain how to remove the password.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier

Wow!! Thanks for the quick response. I understand your efforts trying to secure the admin password on phones. I have two quick questions:

1. Does the method below for setting the admin password need to be applied to global sip.cfg or to phone specific config file?

2. Will this revert the existing password on the phone back to default 456?

Thank You!

In addition the Provisioning Server can be used to set the Password so a End User cannot make changes to the Phone settings.

Please use the following as a template:

<device device.set="1">
<auth device.auth.localAdminPassword.set="1" device.auth.localAdminPassword=""/>

Thanks for the quick response. The problem, the provisioning server IP was updated several days ago and the old IP has been phased out. The Polycom 650 is still trying to talk to the old provisioning server. Additionally, the Polycom is not taking the updated option 66 ascii "ftp://blah:blah@a.b.c.d.com which the Cisco is providing.
