Hello Polycom.

I have a customer that wants a On Hold reminder on their Polycom VVX300. So basically a beeping sound to remind them. It doesnt appear its on the phone by default but can this be done in the config files of the phone?

My other issus is if this can be done, would it be possible to do it by provisioning?

Phone is using the latest UC software etc

Hello Paddy,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

As reminded already in this yet unanswered post => here <= you should always include the currently used software Version.

It is quite bad practice to state "latest software" as a week, month or a year down the line nobody looking at this post will know what that software version was at the time of posting.

Therefore please ensure to always include the actual software version.

In regards to your question please look at the all.hold.localReminder parameter described in the Admin Guide.

In your config file you want to set:

call.hold.localReminder.enabled="1"

This will cause the phone to beep every 30 seconds or so when there is a call on hold. However, running firmware versions 5.3 and 5.4, our phones commonly get stuck thinking they have a call on hold when they do not (and perhaps have not had one at hold at all since they were last booted), and they beep every 30 seconds until the phone is restarted.

Hello Squigley,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

5.3.x ? or 5.4.x ?

What is the exact version and have you raised this with Polycom support via your Polycom reseller yet ?

A quick test using 5.4.0.10182 with a VVX600 on a SIP registration:

call.hold.localReminder.enabled="1"

Does not play a tone every 30 seconds on my test phone.

We identifed this issue in both 5.3.0 and 5.4.0. It is still ocurring.

I have now completed the necessary Polycom certifications and we are able to open tickets directly, so this has been opened as SR # 1-2019790401.

I am currently attempting to collect the necessary information (packet captures, syslog, phone config etc) for further investigation. Our latest update from the engineer the ticket has been assigned to is that the cause of this issue has not been isolated yet, that it is still ocurring in 5.4.1, and the suggested workaround is to disable the hold reminder beep.

@Squigley,

We recently upgraded our phones from 5.2.2.0501 to 5.5.1.11840 and have random phones being affected by exactly what you are experiencing.
We as well are not able to pin point it, except that its specific locations, but those locations do not have the same network topology nor the same routers or internet providers (Thinking maybe it’s a messed up packet)

Did you have any success?

Hello,

I am running into the "phantom" hold reminder ring issue as well.  Our phones are running 5.5.1.11526 and we have over 100 phones deployed in the office.  We experience about 5-10 phones ringing when they had no calls on hold, and the issue would temporarily disappear after a hard reboot of the phone.  However, when doing so, it seems the issue would "migrate" to another phone in the office.

Does anyone have any update on this known issue?

Thank you,

Brad

Hello Brad,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The originally opened ticket 1-2019790401 never contained enough information to reproduce this so I assume it was abandoned.

In your case simply follow the FAQ:

Jan 19, 2012 Question: How to troubleshoot Polycom VoIP related Issues?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

and if no provisioning server or you want to troubleshoot this in real time:

Oct 17, 2011 Question: How can change Logging Levels or use Syslog?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Once you have the relevant logs please provide them to your reseller.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you.

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter please post either your phone's MAC address or your Polycom devices serial so I can look up who would be able to support you.

If the phones are out of warranty please be prepared to pay a PPI / Pay Per Incident fee.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards
