If I upgrade the firmware for my Obihai 202 will I have to reapply its settings or will they be preserved through the firmware upgrade process?

Hi @RobLatour,

Glad to hear the upgrade went well!

The rr stands for Random Delay Range.  This comes into play if the device is busy/in use at the time it would check for updates.

Below is an excerpt from our Voice Adapter Device Deployment Guide.

Time of day in hh:mm[+rr] format, valid when method is set to Time of Day.
Choices are:
• hh: 0 to 23
• mm: 0 to 59
• rr: Maximum range of random delay in minutes (0 to 360). Set to 0 to cancel the random delay. If rr is omitted, the random delay is set to 30 minutes. Your devices always check once on system start, no matter what time it is. When NTP time is not available, your devices check for firmware updates every 60 minutes.

Hello @RobLatour,

Welcome to the Poly Community!

Are you managing your OBi device through OBiTalk?  https://www.obitalk.com/obinet/

If you are managing your upgrades / settings through OBiTalk, typically unless you are running a very old firmware, your settings will be retained.

If you are performing the upgrade manually / configuring your device through the local web interface depending on the firmware which is being upgrade from, there is a chance you may need to reapply the settings.

It is always a good idea to perform a backup of your settings prior to performing an upgrade.  This can be done:

- Within OBiTalk, select OBi Expert Configuration for the specific device and select Backup Config to OBi Expert

- Within the local web interface, select System Management -> Device Update and select Backup Configuration with the appropriate options.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards
Richard

Thank you that was a really good response and exactly what I needed to know.

With it, I was able to update the firmware just fine (and my settings were kept).

As this was the first time I've done this since getting the machine several years ago, knowing how to approach it was quite helpful.

However, so that I don't end up in the same boat in the future, I have done some more reading and set auto-provisioning on.

In relation to that, I have one more small question.  There is an option to do auto-providing at a specific time of day.   The default is 00:00+30 with the help reading hh:mm+rr.   I get the hh:mm part, what does the rr stand for?

Also, and as an aside, I was surprised to read here:  https://www.obitalk.com/info/faq/Troubleshooting-sec/How-do-I-automate-upgrades that the website to download the update from uses http: rather than https: in its url.  I tried the same address with https: in the url, but got a page not found.  The less secure http: does however work.

Is there some place I might suggest this be changed to use a more secure https: url address?

In any case thanks again for your help, would like to know what the rr stands for, and where to suggest https be used in the download website address.
