In the Admin guide it says the following:
CONTACTS_DIRECTORY
An alternative directory to use for user directory files if required. A URL can also be specified. This is blank by default.
So I am running 4.0.4 software, in it I have the CONTACTS_DIRECTORY="" In between the quotes I have put in ftp://userid:password@ftp.companyname.com/00000000000.directory.xml I have uploaded the file to the site. for the life of me the soundpoint 331 will not pull down the directory at all. It is just blank. I also check to make sure I have feature.directory.enabled="1" listed. I have also tried listing the file by macid.directory.xml as well. still nothing.
I have looked over the FAQ which say nothing about an external url and how to make it work or at least I could not find it. I have been seriously beating my head against a wall trying to make this work.
Hello jseckington,
welcome to the Polycom Community.
A URL example would be:
CONTACTS_DIRECTORY="ftp://userid:password@ftp.companyname.com/"
The phone does not load a 000000000000-directory.xml file unless its on the first bootup.
It will always look for a <mac>-directory.xml

----------------Thank you for the reply. Questions:
1. At the end of this CONTACTS_DIRECTORY=ftp://userid:password@ftp.companyname.com/ would I need <mac>-directory.xml
so it would look like CONTACTS_DIRECTORY=ftp://userid:password@ftp.companyname.com/<mac>-directory.xml or as long at the file path is there the phone will know what to look for?
2. I got the phone to download the directory via tftp with the 000000000-directory.xml, then I factory defaulted it. The directory is now empty. I can see the phone hit the tftp server but it says it cannot open the file. so I changed the file name to reflect <mac>-directory.xml and still get the same error. What am I missing:
I am on version 4.0.4 firmware on a soundpoint 331
Hello jseckington,
the 000000000000.cfg or <mac>.cfg on the provisioning server looks like this:
<APPLICATION APP_FILE_PATH="sip.ld" CONFIG_FILES="" MISC_FILES="" LOG_FILE_DIRECTORY="" OVERRIDES_DIRECTORY="" CONTACTS_DIRECTORY="ftp://404r:0@10.252.122.117" LICENSE_DIRECTORY="" USER_PROFILES_DIRECTORY="" CALL_LISTS_DIRECTORY="">
The FTP Server contains the MAC-Directory.xml and is loaded by the Phone via FTP without issues.
Above was verified on a SPIP331 running UCS 3.3.1

----------------ok that is what i was looking for, it does not need to have the file name on it! that is really very helpful! Thank you so very much!
Now on to the next part of the issue.
I got it to work with a 000000000-directroy.xml file 1 time. I factory defaulted the phone. The directory was gone. So I tried to reload it again via tftp. I am using 3cdaemon so i can watch what is happening. It keeps reporting that the file cannot be opened for reading. So i thought let me change this from 0000000000-directory.xml to <mac>-directory.xml, still same result.
does it matter if the mac id is up or lower case? what would cause the phone not to beable to read the same file?
