Hello all,

I have a Soundpoint IP phone and I am trying to place SIP calls to an IP Address only.  I am using a GrandStream Budgetone phone as the control for checking to see if it works.  I've seen some weird behavior.

Trying to get Soundpoint to dial an IP address:

I noticed this in the manual " URL or IP dialing is not supported on registered phones. If your phone is intentionally unregistered, the default dialing mode is by URL"  So we unregistered the phone, reset it to defaults, and set its IP address to 192.168.1.17with a subnet of 255.255.255.0.  We set no other values.

When we set this up the phone asked for a URL to dial.  We tried to call 192.168.1.12 (The budgetone phone).  Wireshark captures showed the SoundPoint phone was trying to find out where 192.168.1.10 was... even though we didn't set any default gateways, servers, etc.

To test we changed the IP address of the Budgetone phone to 192.168.1.10.  When we dialed that the SoundPoint phone asked for 192.168.1.8.  VERY Strange.  Why did that change?

Changing the grandstream phone to 192.168.1.8 did the trick.  Now when we dial from the Soundpoint phone to 192.168.1.8 the phones connect.

Why did all of that happen?  Why did SoundPoint want to know .1.10 and why did it change to .1.8?

Trying to get Soundpoint to accept a call from an IP Address:

This has been a complete non-starter.  When we dial Soundpoint from the budgetone (Dialing 192.168.1.17) Soundpoint responds to the invite with a BAD REQUEST.  Any ideas what's going on here?

Thanks in advance!
