I've enabled TLS for my IP7000 and so far my testing seems to indicate that the IP7000 doesn't support or understand the SIPS. scheme.  I've upgraded my test unit the new 4.0.11 load.

When calling out from the unit, the INVITE is sent over TLS using "SIP:number@domain" but the call is reject by my Avaya Communications Manager server as I have SIPS enforcement enabled for SRTP.

When calling to the unit, Communication Manager (via Session Manager) sends the INVITE with "sips:number@IP", and "sips:" appears in all of the headers as well but the phone reply messages have "sip:" prepended so the headers end up looking like "sip:sips:number@etc" and that confuses the Session Manager proxy server.

Is this a bug or is there a config parameter I'm missing to enable support for "SIPS"?

As a side note, I noticed that even though I set a local port to use, the phone isn't using it for its TLS session.  😞

Hello Sams,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

The Admin Guide matching your Software Version or the Release notes can be consulted in regards of supported features.

Neither SIPS or RFC5630 is stored there to my knowledge and an internal ticket VOIP-68985 states that this is an unsupported feature.

Avaya does the interoperability testing with our devices so they or yourself would need to raise a feature request for this.

How to do this is explained in the FAQ.

Thanks for the reply.  I checked the interop whitepaper from Avaya and they used UDP in their frankly very dated testing.  😞

I'll check out the link on how to submit a request to support SIPS.

Actually, if you have a link to the noted FAQ handy, that would be helpful.

Thanks,

Hello Sam,

My signature has all the FAQ's linked.

A End User cannot submit a feature request. This needs to be done via a reseller and requires a business case.

I would assume you may want to work with Avaya on this as for a single or a few phones and especially for an older device like the IP7000 chances would be very very slim.

Jan 03, 2013 Question: How can I request a change to the current Polycom SIP / UCS Software?

Resolution: Please check => here <=
