Hi all,

We are currently using Polycom SoundPoint IP550 and 650 in our company with our provider's voicemail feature.  However, there are some users that need to have their messages stored locally.  Can we use any digital answering machines with these phones?  What kind would work the best - what can you recommend?

I apologize if that sounds so basic but I am new to VoIP and couldn't seem to find any answers to my questions using the search function.  Thanks a bunch.

Hello CDuran,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The community's VoIP => FAQ <= contains this post here:

Dec 06, 2013 Question: How can I Record or Playback Audio Calls?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Above explains how to setup a local USB recording on a SPIP650. Maybe that can help your users.

Steffen,

Thank you for your quick reply.  I forwarded this information to my lead and he will consider it.  I will let you know if we do use it.

However, I am still wondering if we can still use a regular digital answering machine (like those store-bought ones?) with our phones?  Would those work, if we decide to go that route?

Thank you again.

Hello CDuran,

this is technically not possible.

Normal answer machines require an analog line to work. SIP Phones do not provide an analog line.
