X50 - what are the USB ports for?

Hi

I'm looking into the X50 and cannot find anything conclusive as to what the USB-A and USB-C sockets on the rear of the X50 are used for.

I'm particularly interested because our conference room cable lengths for both of the above cables (if I need both of them) will be approx. 10metres.

My guess is that the USB-C is for newer laptops so we can use the X50 camera, mic and connected screen all using the one cable.

My guess is that the USB-A is for older laptops without USB-C and to be used in conjunction with the X50 HDMI input (HDMI cable required).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello @Knigget ,

Welcome to the Poly Community.

From Page 1 of the Poly Studio X50 Setup Sheet >here<

  • USB-C for BYOD mode aka Studio X becomes a USB Speaker, Microphone and camera can be used by the connected PC or Mac
  • USB-A for either a USB Touch screen and or mouse/USB Keyboard. Or a USB Stick for Logs or Software updates
  • HDMI in to use the Poly Studio X as a PC/Mac screen

Please check the USB specifications found via popular search engines regarding the supported cable length.

Hi @Steffen

Thanks for that - in the diagram you posted a link to it shows a USB-C going into the X50 but a USB-A going into the laptop.. I would have expected a USB-C to USB-C or is it either or?

Thanks in advance

Re: X50 - what are the USB ports for?

Hello @Knigget

I believe the cable that comes in the Box is a USB-C to USB-A USB 2.0 cable

A USB-C USB-C aftermarket cable can be used as well as long as it is within the USB spec in regarding cable length etc.
