Hi,

Often times we use our Studio X30s (version 3.12.0-366027) and Studio X50s (version 3.12.0-366027) as webcams when running video conferencing applications directly on Windows PCs. The X30/50s are connected via USB. The resolution is limited to 720p (as reported by the Windows Camera app). The picture quality is poor when compared to a dedicated webcam or when compared to a meeting run on the X30/50s directly. Is there a way to improve the resolution and or picture quality? Perhaps updated drivers provided by Poly instead of the ones provided Microsoft?

Thanks!

Hello @MediumRoast ,

Welcome back to the Poly Community.

What type of USB cable is being used? How do you determine the quality and resolution?

A quick test with a Studio X running 3.12 shows full resolution is possible with the camera app:

image

There is no specific driver as this uses the industry standard UVC

The resolution used in specific apps depends on the App used and what the app and the used device supports.

Hi @SteffenBaierUK,

Thank you for the information. I didn't know that about the drivers - that's good information.

I am using the same Windows Camera app that you are.

I had not considered the cable. I tried a shorter cable and I am now getting the full resolution. As always, I appreciate your prompt and informative responses!

Quick question,

so we have the same problem of bad resolution when using the poly x50 as a webcam, so far we tried using a Usb C cable. What cable did you use to get the better resolution?

Thank you

Hi. You must make sure you are using a USB 3.X cable, not a USB 2 cable. Note that the USB 3 spec does not include cables longer than 10ft. If a cable is longer than that, it's not USB 3.X, and you won't get the full resolution.
