I am attempting to connect a external monitor to my HDX4000HD via the DVI port with a DVI to HDMI converter. At random times I am able to display the VTC and at others all I am able to get is a plain black screen until I reconnect the polycom display that came with the unit. I have been through the settings multiple times and I have been unable to locate a setting that would cause this issue.

Hello @ben93p,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

It is always useful to include the currently used Software version as issues experienced or a question asked may already be addressed in a newer release.

This also allows yourself and others to check against current software release notes, Administrator Guides or FAQ post’s.

The above is also stated in the "Must Read First" and is the absolute minimum requirement every new post should include. .

In addition providing us with this basic information gives Polycom an idea what Software Versions are used in the field and avoids wasting time trying to troubleshoot issues which have already been addressed.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier

The HDX 4000 does not support a 2nd monitor and the software of the HDX 4x00 is designed to make sure that the display connected is the one designed and shipped with the HDX 4x00.  Other displays will not work.

Would it be possible to connect the VTC unit to a splitter, that only clones the connection so that it outputs to both the stock monitor and the 3rd party monitor?

HP Recommended

Great question, but I do not have an answer.  I would think if you are just extending the DVI it MAY work.  It would depend on the equipment used and the ID that is passed by it between the codec and the display.  If it passes it I would say you have a good chance, if it changes it you would see the same issues I am guess.

We do not test things like that so I do not have an answer that I have any confidence in.

Okay, thank you... Do you know which of these would support a 3rd party monitor the HDX6000, HDX7000, HDX8000, or the HDX9000?

In the back of the HDX Admin Guide HDX Admin Guide is here there are System Back Panel Views.  This will provide guidence to the connections available.

The HDX 9006 has 2 monitor outputs and another one for output to a VCR/DVD player

The HDX 8000 as 2 monitor outputs and another one for output to a VCR/DVD player

The HDX 7000 as 2 monitor outputs and another one for output to a VCR/DVD player (on hardware versions A, B, C, D does not have the VCR output)

The HDX 6000 has a single video out.

The HDX 4000 does not have an auxillary output.

The HDX 4500 and a 2nd monitor ouptut.
