Yes and no. I can understand what you mean by the arrow pointing to the center of the the audio waves. Though the arrow is pointing to the right. If you notice all output arrows point right and all input arrows point left. Sense the port has the arrow pointing to the right it would be the output audio for the GS 700. Also if the port wasn't there you couldn't do audio out if you were not using a HDMI connection on the GS 700.

You should be able to do a 3.5 to 3.5 connection from the main audio out of the Group Series. You would have to make sure you are not doing HDMI output source on monitor one. If you have using a HDMI connection you can always change the output video to DVI and it will force the audio out through the 3.5 audio port.
