Today, our very own Amanda Stewart and her daughter Brooklyn connected with author Laurie Keller for a Polycom Special Event based on the ASK format. Several other schools across the country were participating as well. Students had read Laurie’s book, Arnie the Doughnut: Bowling Alley Bandit, Invasion of the UFOnuts OR Spinny Icky Showdown and had prepared questions to ask her.
Here are a few of the questions from today:
I asked Amanda to share her impression of this event:
As a parent it has always been my goal to support as many of my daughter’s interests as possible. Though she has kept me busy with a wide variety of interests over the years, I’ve always had fun trying to come up with new ways to teach her about those subjects. None have been as fun as our experience with Laurie Keller and Sue Porter today! Brooklyn’s dream is be a comic book author when she grows up and she got one step closer to that dream today when she got to meet and interview Laurie, the author of one of her favorite book series, Arnie the Doughnut. The preparation Brooklyn did leading up to the event felt less like homework and more like a really cool assignment for a project in which she felt privileged to participate. The session was interactive and funny, with enthusiastic answers from Laurie on all types of questions. Brooklyn loved learning how to draw Arnie and his expressions and is now more energized about her dream job than ever! This is an opportunity that she would not have had without access to video conferencing technology and I’m very thankful we were able to join the session!
And, we ended the conference with Ms. Keller teaching the students how to draw their own doughnut and the many faces you can use on your doughnut!!
