The small company I work for has purchased a second hand soundstation 2 Direct Connect model, and given me the responsibility of getting it to work. I unfortunately wasn't around to oversee the purchasing of the device, as I may have advised holding of on purchasing the equipment until we were sure it'd be compatible with our system.

I'm not a phone system expert in the least, but I do know we have a Nortel Callpilot 100 system. I've read that the Soundstation 2 Direct Connect requires a digital Nortel system to function. Is the system we have such a system?

Here are the symptoms I'm experiencing in trying to install the system:

When I set up the Soundstation (RJ-11 into a phone jack (which should be an extension line in our Nortel system), converted to a RJ-45 plug into the wall module, and a RJ-45 from the wall module to a RJ-45 connection to the Soundstation) , the system initializes, and displays ready, however there is no dial tone, and dialing a number yields silence with no connection.

Is our system simply not compatible?

If it is, what do I need to do to get the system to work?

I appreciate you pointing out that article to me, but I had read that post already. It's still unclear to me if the particular Nortel system we have (Callpilot 100) is a Nortel PBX system that the soundstation Direct Connect requires.

The article you directed me to states that "Any other PBX or Line will cause the SoundStation2™ Direct Connect for Nortel to only display the initializing message on the LCD Screen" which in my case is not happening. The Soundstation seems to initialize, and reaches the "ready" screen, but is unable to obtain a dial tone.

Thank you for the attention to my post.

Hello,

I was not aware that you had already seen this FAQ post as you had not mentioned in your original post.

Can your system support any of these Phones connections:

SoundStation2 Direct Connect is compatible with any digital voice port on NORTEL® Meridian®, Meridian 1 (option 11 to 81), SL-1, or SL-100 PBX with the exception of those supporting MBS (CENTREX®) phone sets.

Please be aware that Polycom only manufactures these units for Nortel and any further support needs to be requested from Nortel. You may want to try a dedicated Nortel forum instead.

Best Regards

I've posted on pbxinfo.com, but it doesn't seem to be an active forum. What are the prominent communities for Nortel phone systems?
