I have an interesting issue with my digital Polycom Soundstation 2 units. When I plug one in using an older Direct Connect Interface Module, they work fine. When I plug one in using a Wall module, I do not get a dial tone. Instead, I get a weird ping noise and a faint hum. I have troubleshot the issue enough to know that it has to be the modules, as the older direct Connect Interface Module works with all of my SS2 units, and the Wall Module does not.

Any ideas as to why?

The wall modules for the normal Soundstation 2 (not Direct connect or Avaya 2490) are Analog, whereas the the Direct connect modules are digital, specifically Nortel digital.

I would say that if you plug in a Direct Connect module and it works but the analog modules do not, that port is a digital port off a Nortel Definity PBX.

Also, that sound that you hear when plug in the analog module is a textbook example of what happens when you plug an analog device into a digital interface.

Hello mcdemo49,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

As amobley already written above we need to establish what kind of Hardware you are actually using.

You mention a digital SoundStation 2. Is this the Avaya or Nortel direct connect Variant?

Where does the "old" direct connect Interface come from and where do the Wall Module come from?

You cannot mix different products Wall Mount / Direct Connect interfaces (i.e. analog Sound Station 2 with a Direct Connect Interface)

Do you have a digital circuit or an analog line?

I doubt that all the modules are defective as you should provide more Information if they ever worked and what make you swap them.

Polycom cannot provide any support if non correct parts are used.

Best Regards

Yeah, that was it. I figured it out not too long after I posted this question. I feel like a total novice! lol
