We have an otherwise pristine Soundstation2W which is missing the base unit.  We would like to use it purely as an external mic/speaker for cell phones.  The problem is that we cannot get it to respond to an external phone connection.  We updated the firmware (which may have been unnecessary) and now the unit says "Not registered."  I can access the menu and 'IP Mode' is enabled.  The new menus are different than all the online documentation but I'm assuming it should still switch to displaying "Mobile" if it detects the cable/phone connector.

 

Should it still respond to a valid phone-cable connection, or is it 'locked' until it successfully registers with the (missing) base unit?

I've actually got the same question.

 

My 2w is trying to register, but the base is dead. After a lot of research, turns out I can't replace the base with another one, and because it's a north american unit, I can't use a DECT GAP base.

 

So, I've either got a brick or, +hopefully+ i can at least connect it to a cell phone via the cell cable.

 

But will it work without being registered?

 

I'd hate to buy a cable and it not work anyway.

 

Any ideas?

Hello drventure,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

Using a "European" SS2W without a base shows "searching for Signal" but simply pressing the IP Mode softkey and plugging the accompanying Computer Calling Kit cable into the SS2W and a PC can utilize it as a speaker.

 

I have not tested it as a Microphone as the PC I am using does not have a separate Microphone jack.

Is the Computer Calling Cable a standard 4 conductor microphone capable audio cable, like most out there on the market that support typical 3.5/2.5 mm jacks on cellphones?

 

I've got one of those, but my phone never sees the ploycom as a headset/mic, only as a headset.

Hello drventure,

the computer calling kit is for a PC Microphone and Headphone socket and not a combined mobile phone socket.

 

We sell a separate cable for this and details can be found in the FAQ.

My apologies.

 

I'd been doing some research on this and got the two mixed up.

 

What I've got is a 2.5<->3.5 standard mic enabled audio cable. The connectors on both ends have the standard size (2.5mm or 3.5 mm) plugs, both with 4 connectors (ground, left, right and mic).

 

When I plug from my phone to other mic/headset combos, this works perfectly.

 

When I plug it into the polycom, I get the headset only icon (as if there was no mic attached).

 

I'm just wondering if the 2.5mm plug on the polycom unit is standard or some proprietary configuration.

 

If I HAVE to get the cell cable, then I will, but I'd sure like to be sure I'll be able to actually use it before I buy it.

 

Any ideas whether the polycom cable is proprietary?
