According to the documentation, there should be an option to set the theme between Classic and Modern under Settings > Basic > Preferences > Theme.  That option does not exist on our Polycom VVX500s.  Nor does it work to add device.theme="Classic" in the phone.cfg file.  Currently our phones seemed to be locked into the "Modern" theme which has the classic skype feel with light blue/white.  However, our users prefer the darker look.

Hello PatrickMeehan,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

Could you post the complete build number as I just tested this with a VVX500 and it works fine.

I suggest you factory restore the unit and if it still fails open a ticket.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you. In case this is some sort of an Internet discounter please post your phone's MAC address so I can look up who would be able to support you.

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Just tried again with the recently released 5.5.1.11526 on a Polycom VVX 500 in Lync mode.

It doesn't work with this:

        device.theme.set="1"
        device.theme="Classic"

nor does it work with

        device.theme.set="1"
        device.theme="0"

But the documentation is not clear to me.

It doesn't say it should be a value of zero or one, or the actual string (not clear since it's not in quotes).

Caould the documentation be corrected and is there a proper procedure on how to set the classic theme via a provisioned config file?

Hello Brecht,

welcome back to the Polycom Community.

The VVX in LYNC Base Profile only runs the new Theme.

We also have big trouble with the not existing "Classic" UI theme option in Lync / SfB mode.

We have several locations of our company, each of them  running a Skype for Business Branch Server

with more than 250 phone users together.

The VVX 410 phones now - with the 5.1.x firmware - show the classic UI behaviour as before,

the VVX500 and VVX600 phones are banned to the -  for us useless - "Modern" theme.

The Skype for business favorite contacts on a VVX410 are shown in white letters,

on the VVX500/600 they now are shown in black letters on a white background for each contact key,

which brings severe trouble to us with our company background image.

The only commonly usable background color to use with our 3 different phone types now is a mid to dark grey background

caused by the different UI theme behaviour of the phones.

We really need an option to get rid of the new Modern UI in timefor VVX500/600,

in the opinion of all users the "Modern" UI theme has not enough contrast.

Here a high contrast UI is needed , all our users do not want a Skype lookalike theme for the phones.

In the meantime we unfortunately have to rollback the firmware to 4.5.x.

Can Polycom please unlock the theme switching feature in the next release for the Lync / SfB mode?

The new "Modern" UI leaves its color design in a call and partially shows the old behaviour with dark colors,

so it looks like an early alpha release for us.

An option to switch the light blue background color of the headline with clock and date

and also the background of the softkeys to dark grey , dark blue or other user defined colors

for the new "Modern " UI would be a great idea.

White letters on a light blue background are never a good idea.

Hello Christian,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

The current theme for Skype for Business / LYNC for the VVX 50X / VVX 60X is working as designed and there is no change back.

The VVX 20x, VVX 3xx and VVX 4xx will follow this in a future release.

Our partner Microsoft has some requirements for the UI for all our products.

I can only ask you to submit a future release as explained here:

Jan 03, 2013 Question: How can I request a change to the current Polycom SIP / UC Software?

Resolution: Please check => here <=

Thank you for your reply.

That was exactly the first answer i expected.

Well, to fiddle out the situation, please let me explain in deep:

We purchased a complete SfB environment with SfB main infrastructure, for each of the phone locations of our company,

we launched a SfB branch server for each phone location, purchased lots of Polycom phones

with the - in past - more or less good display behaviour

and you really want to explain me, that we not any longer can customize our phone touchscreen colors to high contrast

due to contracts between Polycom and Microsoft ?

Sorry for that, but customer is king, ever heard about this, ? Really sorry.

The last answer was completely useless to fix the issue.

In our opinion you are driving in the false direction against your customers,

if you implement such limitations into your firmware to fulfill Microsoft requirements as you explained.

We purchased a product that in past fulfilled our display requirements during the project rollout

and expect to operate this environment without any limitations due to new contracts between MS and Polycom

depending on the usage of Lynk / Sfb default configuration of the devices or not.

As an example: In the current MS software client you can actually choose

between SfB or the classic Lync interface for user experience with a policy option

and in Windows OS you can define your OS color definitions, why not on the VVX 500/600 phones?

A phone display is a side screen beside the main working screen on the PC / Notebook

and no toy for design playthings ,

high contrast is needed for a quick view beside yor computer screen,

which is much larger for playing around with graphics.

Please give your customers the possibility to change background colors,

the new icons are no problem, but he the new forced color scheme really is.

That really has to be a customers choice.

We need high contrast phone screens - which always was a customer requirement of us -

that was supported in past by Polycom and now you write a standard deny that it will be thrown away in future ?

As said before - white letters on a baby blue background never are a good idea on a  small screen  -,

even if tMicrosoft requires that, please think about this.

I will give this information to our reseller, because you clearly said that we as a customer can not directly give feedback to you here.

Regards,

Christian

Hello Christian,

I moved this post as we are discussing VVX used with Skype for Busniess.

In addition I spoke to our product management and have the following statement:

  • All of the Polycom end-point products that support SfB will conform to Microsoft’s SfB UI guidelines.

We will be addressing the current UI in our next release currently targeted for Q2 of 2017. The UI will conform to Microsoft’s Skype for Business branding guidelines

It's June of 2018.  I have a VVX 601 on 5.8.0.12386 and still do not have the option to choose which theme I want.  I'm currently stuck on the dark theme.

Suggestions?

Hello @jpblock82,

welcome to the Polycom Community.

In Skype for Business mode, as already explained above, we have to conform to Microsoft's colour schema.

Therefore you will never be able to chose the theme.
