Potentially stupid question… and a general Skype for Business question not just for Polycom phones.
With Skype for Business Online you can make and receive calls or IMs with someone in your organisation through the Skype for Business clients or Skype for Business Online compatible phone.
With federation enabled, you can also call or IM someone in another organisation with the Skype for Business clients.
With Cloud PBX and a PSTN calling plan, you can call ‘real’ phone numbers, and you get a ‘real’ phone number that people can call you on.
But what about SIP calling?
Can you enable it so that you can make calls with someone on a generic SIP URI (e.g. somone who has a free SIP2SIP account) that's not on Skype for Business?

Hello @Westyfield2,
A Polycom phone setup for Skype for Business will have certain settings applied which would prevent a simple SIP call to terminate on the phone.
Since UC Software 5.8.0 we support Hybrid Registration so you could setup a 2nd line to make SIP calls or receive these if you have an account with another provider.
The phone is also able to receive or make calls to a SIP URI
Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

----------------Thanks Steffen, that could be exactly what I want! As I'm only on 5.6.0 I didn't know about the new Hybrid feature.
