The HP Community is where owners of HP products, like you, volunteer to help each other find solutions.

Hello @Rus Yates-Aylott,

I have personally provided you with guidance on your issue but there is a limit as I cannot provide free support.

Either other community members try and help you or the next step is opening a ticket.

In order to raise a support ticket you need to work with your Polycom reseller as they need to do this for you.

End Customers are unable to open a ticket directly with Polycom support.

If this is some sort of an Internet discounter providing your MAC address or your Polycom devices serial will enable us to look up who would be able to support you. This may not be who you purchased the Polycom device from.

If the unit is no longer within warranty please be prepared to Pay Per Incident / PPI. This is all outlined in detail here

Please ensure to provide some feedback if this reply has helped you so other users can profit from your experience.

Best Regards

Steffen Baier

So here is he answer (for anyone interested)

You CAN toggle between profiles. Here's how:

Set your phone up in your preferred way as a SIP phone.

Now you can amend the provisioning server to a non-existing address and also disable DHCP Opt66 in the Provisioning settings.

NOTE: This will prevent the phone from looking for a new config. So updates will only take place if these settings are reset.

In Operations: if your change the base profile to Skype For Business, the phone will not attempt to load any conflicting config and will boot into SfB mode and sign in correctly.

When toggling back to the Generic SIP profile, the phone will remember the settings it carried previously, (again without checking for updates.)

Hello @Rus Yates-Aylott,

I am unsure about the reason for your reply. Nowhere in this post did we specify that you cannot toggle between the modes.

Polycom prides itself to be able to utilize older hardware with newer call servers like Skype for Business and therefore protect a customers investment when they decide to move to a new technology.

This also enables people to trial a Skype for Business Server without the need to purchase new hardware.

A "normal" SKU will be able to switch into Skype for Business mode but unlike the SKU for Skype for Business aka -019 it will use DHCP Option 160 and 66 where the Skype for Business SKU uses 161 and 66.

This ensures full backwards compatibility and the ability to roll this into a production environment.

If a phone has been previously used for openSIP you must factory reset the unit to clear any openSIP related configuration.

The Base Profile can be switched on booting up via the Updater menu and in addition the same is applicable for any Provisioning Server options.

The phone will then bootup in Skype for Business mode and can be utilized.

In addition we do also support hybrid mode which allows the phone to be used with both Skype for Business and openSIP at the same time.

Please remember the following:

The use of Polycom UC Software versions 4.1.X (“Software”) requires the purchase of a separate Software license for every device that will use the Software in a Lync / Skype for Business environment. You may not install, access, or use the Software in a Lync / Skype for Business environment on more devices than are listed on your license until additional licenses have been purchased and authorized by Polycom. These licenses should be purchased from the same company from which you purchased the devices. You may operate devices against a Lync / Skype for Business server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement.

Polycom reserves the right to audit your deployment to verify that you have sufficient licenses to match the number of devices being used.
