Hi guys,

We are having sound issue between Skype and RMX in a realconnect environment.

Video endpoints connected to RMX are not able to hear SFB randomly in a middle of a call and sound comes and goes randomly.

SFB participants are able to hear each other and also RMX connected VC endpoints but VC endpoints connected to RMX can only hear other VC endpoints and not SFB participants.

Video is working.

There are no mute signs on the RMX or in the skype rooster.

Are you aware of such issue? We recently upgraded the RMX to version 8.7.5.6, can it be related?

This is not happening all the time and we weren’t able to simulate this yet, only when users complain we are joining the session and we see the issue…

We saw similar issues in our environemnt and eventually resolved by disabling the Noise Block feature on the RMX's.

It's also worth noting that we did not experience any adverse effects by disabling Noise Block, and we have over 4000 endpoints and a huge call volume.

This is the answer. We dealt with the issue in production for a long time. We eventually diasabled noise block on the RMXs and it is not perfect. No negative effects noticed.

Conferencing in Skype generally has audio treatments enabled (this is set in Skypes Conferencing policy) and when you start layering on more treatments such as echo cancellation, etc from the RMX and from the endpoint AND the endpoint's DSP. this can happen. I too disabled the audio treatments on the RMX and although it isnt perfect, its better.

Remember if any of your callers are on the PSTN, the audio codec negotiated is generally pretty minimal. Think about how many times the audio packets are transformed from codec to codec and especially between the RMX and AVMCU - then if you use another system like Avaya or Cisco as your SIP trunk to PSTN, that audio is also passing through that stack,

thanks for the answers guys.

How do you cancel noise block feature on RMX? is it a flag or a profile setting?

In our environment the realconnect profile is set on the DMA and under audio settings we have only "Echo suppression" and "Audio clarity" enabled should they be disabled as well?

Noise block and other features are disabled.

There are Conference profile settings as well as RMX flags. You have to decide what works best for your environment.

There are audio settings at the endpoint, dma conference template and RMX level. 99% of my conferences are realconnect so I have all audio settings disabled at the template level. There are rmx flags that will enhance the "listening" volume at which the rmx listens to the far side. You can find these flags in the rmx admin guide

in my experience, a lot of this is trial and error, and you have to find the best combo for your environment.
