Hello Polycom Community,
We plan to evaluate CSS as solution to meet our business needs of building unified communication handoff between Lync 2013 and standalone polycom HDX/RP devices with CCCP/VCP licenses.
As you may understand the key point here is content sharing. So what we try to do is to integrate CSS directly with Lync 2013 vi SIP and make content works for everyone (HDX/RP devices and lync users) who are on Lync meeting.
My question is , should it works by design of this solution (CSS) ?
Right now we try to understand, do we need to buy RMX (it is rather expensive) only because of content sharing problem. Base on our company size/practices we don't plan to use RMX in any other way.
We build our UC on Lync 2013 platform , more over that it works with Skype community more and more smoothly.
Appreciate your experience/notes/suggestions.
Regards,
Alexey

Era,
i think you are confusing what pieces in the solution do what. As Jeff points out, you need a DMA, RMX, CSS, and Lync to make this work. All the pieces in this solutiuon provide a role to complete the solution. The RMX specifically sends/receives the H239/BFCP content stream. The Lync addon is able to automatically join the conference to order to send/recieve the BFCP content stream. The DMA just faciliates the Lync client into the VMR hosted on the RMX. The CSS server provides configuration and call flow to the Lync addon.
I get what you are saying that you want to subsititue the HDX with multipoint capabilities instead of using the RMX. The HDX does not have the code in it to replicate the function that the RMX does with respect to transcoding the different content streams. There are a host of other reasons why this would not work. Have you looked into deploying the Soft RMX virtual edition?
