Hi. See pic.

I'm trying to install Plantronics Hub for Mac. Version # is unclear or else I'd provide it.

During install, a "security" box pops up saying:

You are making changes to the System Certificate Trust Settings.

Enter your password to allow this.

[Username field]

[Password field]

{Update Settings}
{Cancel}

1. Why is this necessary? What is it for?
2. What exactly will it do to my certificate trust settings?

The installer didn't mention this. This is not something I want to authorize for headset software. What's the purpose and what's the scope?

Hello @private_individual_user ,

Welcome to Poly Community.

I am not an expert in security certificate or Apple OS field but in my understanding this is something a security measure your MAC OS has in place in case it does not trust any communication over SSL with remote server/service on the public network.

  1. Why is this necessary? What is it for?

=> By adding a certificate in your trusted list MAC OS will allow communication with this remote service over public network and will take it as secure enough for you to trust it. If you need more details what is the significance then you can refer to this link.

  1. What exactly will it do to my certificate trust settings?

=> By adding it to your trusted certificate settings it will tell your MAC OS that you have entered a secure website or server and your data is going to be passed securely. The digital certificate information for HUB firmware update is listed here. If you need more details then please contact Apple support and they can help you with more details about the implication of these system certificates on MAC OS.
